GTA VI delays: three dates and what Rockstar actually said

Three dates

That makes two delays — not three, not five, as is sometimes written. The official page now carries one date: November 19, 2026.

What was said each time

December 2023. The text under the first trailer said the game heads to the state of Leonida, “coming 2025 to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S”. No day, only a year.

May 2025. A short letter from the studio: the game is “now set to release on May 26, 2026”. The reason given was that they “need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve”, alongside an apology — “we are very sorry that this is later than you expected”.

November 2025. Another letter: release on Thursday, November 19, 2026. The reason is phrased the same way — “these extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve”.

Both letters share a tone: apology, thanks for patience, quality as the reason. Neither names a specific problem, a culprit, or an internal schedule. Whatever you read about “the real reasons” has no basis in these two texts.

Will there be a third delay

Nothing points to it: November 19 stands on the official page, pre-orders are open against that date, and an extended look is scheduled for August 27. That is not a guarantee — publishers do not give those — but there is no reason to expect another move either.

What can be said fairly: between the second announcement and release, Rockstar has opened pre-orders and named a pre-load date (November 12) for the first time. Those steps usually come once a date is firm.

Why this matters for pre-ordering

A date moved twice is an argument against hurrying rather than against the game: the purchase bonus reaches everyone who buys before November 20, so ordering months ahead buys little. Details in the pre-order piece.
